An LGBTQ group in Florida has been slammed for issuing a ‘travel advisory’ that urges members of the queer community to avoid the Sunshine State over recent laws restricting their ‘health, safety, and freedom.’
The campaign group Equality Florida made headlines by saying the ‘extremist policies’ of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis made the state more dangerous for LGBTQ Americans to live, work and study.
DeSantis has spearheaded a populist ‘anti-woke’ agenda aimed at restricting sex-reassignment treatments for trans kids and teaching about sex, race and gender in schools and colleges.
DeSantis’ office dismissed the bogus travel advisory as a ‘political stunt.’
Critics pounced on Equality Florida, saying the civil rights group was not really operating in the best interests of LGBTQ people, especially younger Floridians who struggled with their identity.

‘I’m sure this will do wonders for the mental health of youth in Florida,’ said Leor Sapir, a fellow of the Manhattan Institute, a conservative New York-based think tank.
‘Nothing says ‘we have your back’ like persuading psychologically unstable teenagers that the environment they live in is even more hostile and hopeless than they imagine it to be.’
Meanwhile, Oli London, an influencer who is de-transitioning from a trans woman back to a man, slammed the group for being ‘woke’ and pushing irreversible medical procedures on trans minors.
‘The group, which pushes for teens to have double mastectomies and genital reassignment surgery in the name of gender identity, is now advising all members of the LGBT community not to travel to Florida,’ London tweeted.

Equality Florida, the state’s biggest LGBTQ advocacy outfit, on Wednesday said it was taking the ‘extraordinary step’ of issuing a travel warning, urging queer people, families, entrepreneurs, and students against visiting the state.
Travel advisories are usually issued by the US State Department or comparable departments in foreign governments, urging nationals to beware natural disasters, terrorism, civil unrest and other problems in a destination.
The group said Florida ‘may not be a safe place’ to visit or take up residence because of the passage of new laws and policies that are ‘hostile’ to LGBTQ communities and may pose a ‘serious risk’ to the health and safety of visitors.
It described the advisory as an ‘unprecedented’ move and a response to a series of ‘hateful’ laws and policies against LGBTQ people signed by DeSantis, who is widely tipped to be seeking the Republican nomination for next year’s presidential election.
Members of Florida’s LGBTQ community have railed against DeSantis policies. At this event in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, protestors shouted ‘We say gay!’ in a rejection of the governors crackdown
One of DeSantis’ signature policies bans classroom lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade or in a manner that isn’t age appropriate, a law opponents have labeled ‘Don’t Say Gay.’
Last year, when he and his administration’s Health Department campaigned against sex-reassignment treatments for minors and pushed state health regulators to ban the care, which advocates call ‘gender-affirming’.
The prohibition, which was approved by two state boards and took effect this year, bans sex reassignment surgeries and puberty blockers for minors. Officials said the treatments are experimental and risky for children.
In a statement about the travel advisory, Equality Florida’s executive director Nadine Smith said those and other laws ‘strip away basic rights and freedoms’ and had led to an exodus from the state.
‘It is most heartbreaking to hear from parents who are selling their homes and moving because school censorship, book bans and health care restrictions have made their home state less safe for their children,’ said Smith.
‘Whether you stay away, leave or remain, we ask that you join us in countering these relentless attacks.’
Teaching about gender identity and sexuality in schools and providing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to trans children has become a frontline in the culture wars between liberals and conservatives.
